Own Boat Tuition

Own boat tuition is ideal for anyone who would like to learn more about their new motorboat, or consolidate knowledge of a boat they've owned for a while. Training will be customised to suit your boat's capabilities, your skill level and that of your crew.

Having one of Urban Truant's friendly and knowledgeable skippers on board is a reassuring safety net whilst you practice berthing, anchoring, passage planning, and more. Even just having someone on hand to help you go through the electronics or get answers to those niggly questions you have will improve your knowledge and give you the confidence to enjoy using your boat with friends and family.

No two sessions are the same. At Urban Truant we are responsive to your objectives and the itinerary will be shaped (and re-shaped) entirely to what you want to achieve. It can be used to train for RYA qualifications at any level if required. You can even take Yachtmaster™ exams on your own vessel if it meets the RYA's specifications.

How It Works

Before Your Session

Tell us about your boat, your experience level, and what you'd like to achieve. We'll match you with a skipper who can help you reach your goals.

During Your Session

Your skipper joins you aboard your own motorboat. The ratio is flexible and you can include your crew — everyone benefits from the session. The day is entirely shaped around your objectives, whether that's building berthing confidence, learning your electronics, or tackling that first longer coastal passage.

Flexible Duration

Sessions can be arranged for a few hours, a full day, or multiple days depending on what you want to cover. We'll work around your schedule.

After the Session

You'll have greater confidence in handling your own motorboat and the knowledge to make better use of her capabilities. Many boat owners return for refresher sessions before the start of each season or before undertaking a challenging passage.
