RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety

RYA Shorebased > RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety

Overview

Course
Syllabus

RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety equips both racers and cruisers with the skills and knowledge necessary to both prevent and deal with emergencies offshore. Whilst this course satisfies the training requirements for many offshore races it is equally suited to those who undertake blue water cruises and may be beyond immediate help. Anyone can attend this course.

This one day course is based at Urban Truant’s training facilities at Swanwick Marina. The classroom  has a wide range of safety equipment that is used to turn theoretical sessions into a hands-on experience. Whilst this can be taken as a stand-alone course, in order to issue the full ISAF certificate, candidates are also required to attend RYA Sea Survival course within the last 5 years (please note that the ISAF certificate will be dated the same as your Sea Survival course not the date you took the ISAF, so you may wish to re-take the Sea Survival course).

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) is the world governing body for the sport of sailing and officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee. This RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety course satisfies the training required by ISAF Offshore Special Regulations 6.01 for category 0, 1 and some category 2 offshore races. If you’re looking to do the course to fulfil a training requirement, we also recommend attending the one day RYA First Aid course. Whilst this is not a requirement for the actual ISAF certificate it is required to be held by a certain number of crew on some races.

Marie - RYA Competent Crew

"Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to become an Urban Truant. I knew my week under sail with you would stand out from the others, and that’s why I dropped everything and arrived in glorious sunshine for my adventure.

I couldn’t pick a highlight because everything exceeded my expectations. The boat lived up to her name, the trip was full of interest and my crewmates added to a very enjoyable experience.

I hope to put my new-found sea legs and all the knowledge I gained from you towards an interesting future.

Thank you for your patience, friendliness... read more"
