In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives. This is especially true in situations where it’s not easy to call an ambulance or get to a hospital. This one-day course is designed to teach you what to do in many of the situations where people have accidents whilst on a small craft from how to resuscitate someone to how to treat minor cuts.

Most engine problems can be avoided by taking simple precautions, and you don’t need a detailed mechanical knowledge. This course teaches you how your engine works, how to keep it healthy by using basic checks and maintenance procedures, and how to get it started again in the event of a breakdown.

RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety equips both racers and cruisers with the skills and knowledge necessary to both prevent and deal with emergencies offshore. Whilst this course satisfies the training requirements for many offshore races it is equally suited to those who undertake blue water cruises and may be beyond immediate help. It is aimed at sailors and motor boaters who are looking to undertake more complex passages perhaps offshore or at night. It will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Yachtmaster™ Coastal and Yachtmaster™ Offshore practical course.

This course offers an introduction to the essential knowledge needed when you’re afloat. Concepts such as tide or weather are just as important to kayakers or jet skiers, as they are to someone on a sailing yacht.

The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is a minimum legal requirement for every British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. It’s also an essential and informative qualification for anyone who enjoys boating so that they can use a marine radio fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) functionality.

RYA Short-Range Certificate (SRC) VHF Radio – Exam

The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the radio licence issued to someone who has completed both SRC training and assessment. If you sit the course at Urban Truant’s training facilities in Swanwick Marina, then your exam will automatically be held at the end of the day. If however, you choose to complete the online version of the course, you will still need to attend an RYA centre in order to sit the exam.

CEVNI (Inland Waterways) Test

Using boats on the UK’s inland waterways does not require any certification. However, should you want to navigate the inland waterways in Europe and beyond, you will need to have demonstrated your understanding of the traffic regulations applicable on inland waters. Code Européen des Voies de Navigation Intérieure (CEVNI) is the code governing navigation on the interconnected European inland waterways.

Highfield RIBs

All our Powerboat training courses are delivered on our exceptionally maintained Highfield Patrol RIBs (rigid inflatable boats) which operate well at speed and close quarters maneouvres.

Once you have learnt to drive a RIB you can get access to Urban Truant's Urban Truant RIB Club.
